2 souvenir medals from the National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu 國立清華大學, 1984
The medals are held in their original boxes and are mounted on wooden boards so they can be hung or stood upright. They were given to Joseph Needham during his visit to Taiwan with Lu Gwei-Djen in 1984.

5 Chinese calligraphy brushes, 1950s-1970s?
An assortment of Chinese calligraphy brushes from different periods and places, mostly Beijing. They include: 2 with Chinese characters indicating that they were inspected by Li Fushou 李福寿, one of which is dated 'Spring 1964' 2 bearing the maker’s label 松楳园精选. 1 made by 北京市第一毛笔生产合作社.
5 Japanese calligraphy brushes made by the Taiyang Tang 太陽堂 and inscribed with the Chinese characters 劍橋大學李約瑟用筆, meaning 'Brush for the use of Joseph Needham of Cambridge University', 1970s-1980s
Each of the brushes has the red, circular logo 'Taiyodo 太陽堂', the business that made them, at the top, and another plain white sticker lower down with the Chinese characters 太陽堂製 ('Made by the Taiyang Tang'). Two of the brushes are lacquered red, one lacquered black, and two are plain bamboo. Each has the Chinese characters 劍橋大學李約瑟用筆 (Brush for the use of Joseph Needham of Cambridge University) inscribed on it, and are of varying length. Where or when he was given them is not certain.

The 'weekend school' is described as 'a study of Chinese civilisation and its relation to the West'. Joseph Needham lectured alongside Dr. Cheng Te-K'un, lecturer in Far Eastern Art and Archaeology, Cambridge University and Mr. Derek Bryan, formerly H. M. Foreign Service. Documents include correspondence arranging the event; event programme; lists of Attingham park courses for Summer 1956, Spring 1957 and Summer 1957; pamphlet describing Attingham Park House.

A newspaper cutting of 4 January 1873 containing two advertisements (in Chinese) from 1) La-shih-li Co., regarding shipping insurance, dated on the 6th day, 6th month, 11th year of Tongzhi's (T'ung-chih) reign (1 July 1872), and 2) Ch'an-shen (Chanshen) Co., regarding fire insurance, dated on the 6th day, 12th month, 11th year of Tongzhi's reign.
